ORIGIN
"My mother never let anyone leave her home without a full plate. I did not understand then that she was teaching me how to heal people."
Dr. Perpetue K. Augustin was born and raised in Haiti. She and her family arrived in the United States together when she was 16, navigating everything at once: a new country, new systems, and the particular in-between of belonging to two worlds and fully claiming neither.
Her family moved through it the way immigrant families do, with each other and with determination. They pushed her. They believed she could be anything. They still do.
Her mother's kitchen was never just about food. It was where the family gathered, where the hard things became a little easier to say, where making something with your hands created the conditions for honesty that sitting across a desk rarely does.
She grew into her mother without realizing it. And somewhere along the way she understood that the kitchen was doing something she also recognized from her clinical work. It was creating the conditions for people to finally exhale. That understanding became ILORA. And it became PerpTable. Two doors. One world. Built for the people who needed it most.
